What are these players doing?
I could say they are working hard, taking initiative in their softball training to make themselves better everyday. Well, they are, but…. that is pretty obvious. These softball players are all working to get better in their weakest areas; their arms. Yes, every single one of them asked me what they need to do to make their throws stronger, asked for help with constant shoulder pain or asked me to create a program that will help them stay off the bench. Now none of those may seem like an uncommon request but it is the fact that they acknowledge that they needed to make a change for their next softball season.
I work with hundreds of softball players and honestly maybe 20% of those softball players will admit to their weaknesses and work at changing it. We are in an era where 50% of injuries in teenagers (ages 13-18) are from some type of overuse due to sports. It is a number that I see growing each year unless we teach softball players and all other athletes to change their mindset. I cringe when I hear softball pitchers and baseball pitchers tell me they throw for a two-hour practice or I see 12 year olds in pain from throwing in between games. Start taking charge of all of your players arm care. It is the greatest asset they have in softball. I'm coming out with a total arm care program with ArmPro bands so stay tuned for more info.
