SQUATS
There is nothing that can replicate the power production that a squat develops in any athletic movement. Squats are really and truly a softball players definitive exercise in creating so many valuable skills; power, mobility, strength, balance, explosiveness. Squats are an undeniable tool to your tremendous growth so get used to them. There are also so many variations to squatting that you can really do an entire squatting circuit without being totally redundant.
Every variation offers a ton of value. Here's some variations;
- Bar squat
- Goblet squat(video on right)
- Bowlers squats
- Split squats
- Single leg squats
- Reverse squats
- Jump squats
That's a great list to start with. Here's the basics on squatting 101 form; regardless of your form of resistance( Dumbbells, bars, kettle bells the form standards are the same. Feet outside hips, weight in your heels, initiate the movement from your hips, butt drives back, back flat and weight is pushed back not over the knees. Girls are much better with visuals so here's what I say; imagine your in a public restroom and you need to go to the bathroom. Most players totally get the movement after that. You may not choose that visual but it usually works.
A powerful squat adds depth to a players power. It also helps to teach body awareness. Players learn when the movement feels right on or is off. It also creates a ton of explosiveness in very little time. If you master the squat your creating an essential movement in your development as a player.
